AEMS is a university-wide hub that integrates expertise across the University of Toronto and its partners to advance multidisciplinary education, research, engineering innovation, and professional development in nuclear science and technology. Ontario’s electricity system is among the cleanest in North America, with nuclear energy providing the majority of the province’s electricity. Continued investment in reactor refurbishment, small modular reactors (SMRs), and next-generation technologies positions Ontario as a global leader in reliable, low-carbon energy.
Canada is a world leader in the production and application of medical isotopes used in diagnostic imaging and cancer treatment. Advances in isotope production, radiopharmaceutical sciences, and biomedical technologies continue to expand the impact of nuclear science on healthcare.
The continued growth of the nuclear sector depends on highly qualified engineers, scientists, technologists, and innovators. Education institutes play a critical role in developing this talent through education, research, experiential learning, and professional development—an important focus of AEMS UToronto and the AEMS Academy.
