Educating the next generation of engineers, scientists, innovators, and leaders

AEMS integrates education, research, and professional development to prepare future leaders in nuclear science, engineering, medicine, and energy systems. Through interdisciplinary pathways across the University of Toronto, students develop the knowledge, technical expertise, practical experience, and collaborative perspective needed to address the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly evolving nuclear landscape.

MEng Nuclear Emphasis

Preparing the next generation of nuclear engineers through an integrated graduate curriculum that bridges science, engineering, technology, and professional practice. Delivered through two foundational courses, the program combines multidisciplinary instruction, industry engagement, facility visits, and workplace-ready professional development to equip students for leadership across Canada’s evolving nuclear sector.

Immersive Learning Across the Learning Continuum

The AEMS Academy is the educational and professional learning platform of AEMS UToronto, delivering immersive programs that support learners across every stage of their educational and professional journey—from high-school students and undergraduates to graduate students, researchers, engineers, and industry professionals. Through outreach, professional education, micro-credentials, specialized training, and collaborative learning experiences, the Academy cultivates talent and strengthens Canada’s nuclear and advanced technology workforce.

  • Fusion Energy — A one-week immersive introduction for high-school students exploring fusion science, engineering, and next-generation energy systems. Participants discover the scientific principles, enabling technologies, engineering challenges, and future potential of fusion as a source of clean, sustainable energy.
  • Photonics: Lenses to Lasers — A one-week immersive program for high-school students introducing the fundamentals of optics, photonics, and laser technologies through interactive demonstrations, laboratory experiences, and engineering applications. The program provides a foundation for future study and careers in science, engineering, and advanced technologies.
