About the training
International nuclear safeguards from a Canadian perspective
This two-day training course will provide an introduction to international nuclear safeguards administered by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), along with related international export control regimes, from a Canadian perspective.
These course topics provide a foundation for further study and professional engagement in safeguards, non-proliferation, and related fields in the nuclear industry. The course will be delivered through engaging lectures and exercises. By the end of the course, participants will understand the historical development, key principles and implementation of international nuclear safeguards, with particular emphasis on Canada’s role in supporting the peaceful use of nuclear technology worldwide.

What you will cover
An overview of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements
The framework of IAEA safeguards: agreements, protocols, and practices
Introduction to international nuclear export control regimes and related import/export control arrangements
Certification. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion jointly recognized by the CNLC and University of Toronto’s AEMS Academy.
